Facebook is to my generation what a pack of Marlboros was to the previous. After a while you wonder how u ever lived without it.
I had no idea how many friends I had until I finally succumbed to Facebook.
I still remember the day when I reluctantly accepted that one invitation from an old friend that had been languishing in my inbox, added a couple of others and the next thing I knew I was in the midst of a full-fledged friend attack. I was like the pied piper of Facebooklin. One click of my magic mouse and those friends came dancing right out of the woodwork of my varied past into the streets of my uneventful present.
My frnds of various stripes and colors and fuzzy mugshots all newly outed and blinking on the bright led monitor all networked and connected and buzzing with news.
Suddenly it was college festival season all over again with everyone, all spaced out and smoking the part as they sat clicking away behind their laptops in their pyjamas. This time defying social network brought us back to assembly hall of School, fancy dress competition at Ganesh Utsav and Durga Puja in colony's activity centre, first menstrual cycle, Viva Voce in college, unending phone calls, completing sessionals and journals at college canteen, raggings, birthday parties, first office day, first wedding in group, re-unions etc… The girl sitting on the first seat in your school is no more a nerd, backbenchers are star performers in their offices, the girl with most disgusting looks is almost a model and the girl who never was in your friend list back in school has helped you find a house in her city when you were transferred there. Remember the lucky day when your first crush sent you a friendship invite on FB? Now he isn’t shy of asking you out… u no longer have to worry about the dress you should wear to impress him, It’s the first time he gonna see you without glasses hiding your face… you are prettier…you are sexier… you have your own picture as display pic on FB unlike the cartoon on your first social site. 70% of your friends have even LIKED your pic….so u r confident he would be highly impressed on ur next date! Isn’t life more beautiful now? How lovely it is to be a teen again! And how easy it is to live again!
